In this episode of the project video blog, Nikoletta Pikramenou will talk about her research into intersex rights. Intersex persons, or people born with a combination of both female and male biological traits, may face discrimination and experience unwanted surgeries and procedures in infancy. The term sex-selective abortion refers to the practice of terminating a pregnancy based on the predicted biological sex of the foetus. Dr Pikramenou’s research focuses on an under-discussed issue of sex-selective abortions of intersex foetuses. By doing so, she tries to locate abortion as an issue that escapes gender binarism.
